This second semester saw a new GOA elective class cycle begin, with students loving their new classes.
This semester, the elective options are: Business Essentials, Exploring Art Movements, Journalism, Outdoor Learning & Design Elective, Intro to Psychology, Scene Studies, and Study Hall.
With such a wide variety of elective choices, every student can take a class they are interested in.
Sophomore Emily Himber, who is taking Scene Studies said, “I am so excited because we are going to learn how to audition using a slate, memorize lines and understand texts. We will be learning all about Shakespeare and joining a competition outside of school, which is what I am really looking forward to.”
Sophomore Logan Gladstone is interested in journalism and writing articles so he decided to take the Journalism course.
He said, “I am most excited about being with a new group of students and finding more topics that I am interested in to learn more about. I want to learn more about journalism, but since that isn’t included in core classes, the electives have given me opportunities to strengthen my skills and make me more dedicated.”
However, seniors will not be continuing with electives during the second semester as they will be taking their learning abroad on the annual Israel trip.
Senior Yael Benzaquen said, “I can’t believe that I won’t ever take another elective here at GOA. Elective courses have allowed me to explore the arts and other interests that are not in the standard curriculum, and I am truly grateful for them.”
A variety of elective choices provide students with the opportunity to branch out intellectually and creatively.
For example, during the first semester, students took equally riveting and fun classes that allowed them to go beyond the basic curriculum.
Junior Liora Goldberg took Art in the Senses first semester. She said, “I loved it! Art in the senses was a cool new way to look at art that I had never experienced before. It allowed me to expand my artistic horizons and learn more about different styles of creativity.”
Though many students like Liora enjoyed their classes, with the second semester having recently begun, it’s time for students to shift their focus to their new classes.
With the new elective options covering such a wide range of interesting topics, there is an exciting course for every student at GOA.
