The new baseball season is officially underway, bringing excitement to the players, fans and teams alike.
As the MLB starts its latest season this spring, teams everywhere are gearing up to face months of competition, hoping to make a run towards the playoffs and the coveted World Series. Whether the player is a seasoned star or a young rookie, the beginning of the season brings a fresh opportunity for success.
As the season begins each year, excitement builds as teams look to erase their record from the previous year and make a strong start to the season.
As teams compete in ballgames, showcasing the previous months of trading players, training and preparing. The fans are ready to cheer their favorite teams on to victory from the seats or from their own homes.
Freshman Bryson Skolnick said, “It’s my favorite time of the year because everything feels new again, and any team can win.”
In the traditional sense, teams look to their long 162-game season to prove their ability to be consistent winners. Although the early games may not determine the teams that win the championships, they can set the tone for the rest of the games to be played.
An important aspect of the new season is the focus on the performance of the players. Players are being watched to see how well they perform, while young players have the chance to prove themselves and become more prominent members of their teams.
Freshman Zach Garber said, “I like seeing new players step up because you never know who’s going to become really good.”
Fans also look forward to the continuation of rivalries. The matches involving rival teams carry multi-generational energy and excitement. This is especially true early in the season.
There are also some challenges associated with the new season: Injuries, lack of team chemistry and inconsistency are some of the challenges that may affect the performance of the teams. This is because the season is quite long, so teams have to stay consistent throughout the season if they want to do well.
Junior Eli Kutten said, “I think the hardest part is staying good for the whole season, not just the beginning.”
In spite of all the challenges, the beginning of a new baseball season brings a fresh start, full of possibilities. The season brings the promise of improvement for the teams, proof of the players’ worthiness and the thrill of the game for the fans.
As the season progresses, the focus will be on the teams that make it to the top and contend for the championship.
